The Centre for Sustainable Municipalities (CSM) held its first energy efficiency training session for Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA) employees today. Funded through the Independent Electricity Systems Operator (IESO) Education Capacity Building program, the CSM will be leading several training sessions across the province. The sessions are designed to provide OCWA operations and maintenance staff with the tools and skills needed to complete energy audits of water and wastewater facilities.
Trainees in the program will learn how to identify ways to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at their home facilities.
“This training program clearly demonstrates the strength of the partnership between CSM and OCWA,” said Grant Murphy, Manager, CSM. “It is a proactive and practical training program for water and wastewater operators with a results oriented focus related to energy use and GHG emissions.”
The first training session of 16 trainees was held at the Frost Campus (Lindsay, Ontario) of Fleming College and included a site visit to the Lindsay wastewater treatment plant. Having completed a successful first session, the CSM and OCWA team are excited to continue the momentum and deliver the program across Ontario.
